The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a beautiful gift to the Church. Whenever we stray from our call to follow him in all things, Christ provides us the opportunity to be reconciled with him and his church. At Saint Pius X Parish, Reconciliation is available regularly every Saturday afternoon from 3:00 to 4:00 in the confessional. This can be done either face to face or behind the screen. Also, the sacrament is available by appointment, or even without an appointment for those who stop by the parish during normal open hours (Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM). Preparation for First Reconciliation is made in Second Grade as part of the curriculum for students of Saint Pius X School or CCD Program.
Preparation for First Communion is made in Second Grade as part of the curriculum for students of Saint Pius X School or CCD Program. Adult participants in RCIA make their first Communion as part of their entrance to the Church at Easter.
Couples seeking to be married at Saint Pius X Parish must set an appointment with a priest or deacon six months prior to their desired wedding date. A date cannot be set on the church calendar until such a meeting has taken place, even if the priest or deacon is from another parish. Both the Family Life Center and the Sarto Center are available to rent for receptions. Inquire with the parish office for rates and policies.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated normally in the Archdiocese of Mobile in the junior year of high school. Teenagers desiring to receive the sacrament must be enrolled in the parish sacramental preparation program for at least one year prior to the celebration in order to be Confirmed. Attendance at a catholic high school does not suffice for preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation. Because of the recent change in Confirmation age, the next Confirmation class will take place in the 2014-2015 academic year. However, the Archdiocese requires regular enrollment in a Confirmation preparation program for two years before a teen can be confirmed. That means that a teen who wants to be confirmed in the spring of 2015 must begin Confirmation classes at Saint Pius X Parish in the spring of 2013.
Every catholic, male or female, should recognize the possibility that God is calling him or her to something extraordinary. Whether it be in marriage, religious life, or the priesthood, God has an amazing life in store for each and every one of us. Saint Pius X Parish is blessed to have two men who have come forward to serve God. One of these, Fr. Stephen Hellman, was ordained a priest in June of 2012, and is now the parochial vicar at Saint Ignatius Parish in Mobile. The other, Sam O'Donnell, is discerning God's will for him at Saint John Vianney Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It is truly a testament to the community of faith at Saint Pius X that two men in such a short span of time have stepped forward to seek out God's will in this special way. If you feel that God may be calling you to the priesthood or religious life, please don't hesitate to talk about it to someone, in particular a priest. God has remarkable things in store for you.
